This paper describes the overall approach to diffuse and stray light. Emphasis is placed on definition of different types of interactions with particles in the atmosphere, which causes appearing of the diffusion effects within observing conditions especially in astronomy. We discuss the disadvantages and advantages of light diffusion with respect to design and performance of general optical systems.
