Original language description
Laser welding of Mg alloys is considered difficult because of oxdes layer on surface, hight thermal conductivity and high solubility of gases and exotermic reaction with oxygen. Yet laser welding is very prospective technology. AZ31 is welded by solid state laser from Rofin. The visual aspect of welds is satisfying, but microstructure changes, causing mechanical properties of decrease subtantially.
