    The Influence of Nickel Interlayer for Diffusion Welding of Titanium and Austenitic Stainless Steel

    The diffusion welding of titanium alloy Ti6Al4V and austenitic stainless steel 1.4301 was produced at Laboratory of Education of Welding Technologies on CTU in Prague. The welds were done without and with Nickel interlayer (thickness 20 ?m) and are evaluated by metallography, SEM, EDX and nanohardness measurement. There was mapped chemical composition across the joint interface by EDX analysis. Mechanical characteristics (reduced modulus Er, indent hardness HIT) were measured by system Hysitron TI 950 TriboIndenter. Results show that using of Ni interlayer leads up to creation of NiTi phase with shape memory. This phase is not present at sample welded without Ni interlayer. The presence of NiTi phase has resulted in slower transition of reduced modulusfrom one material to another. At sample without Ni Interlayer fluctuations of measured hardness values was noted, so mechanical properties of the joint with Ni interlayer would be better.
