Evaluation of Unalloyed Steel Corrosion of industrial pipeline
Original language description
The main aim of the presented paper was to analyse of corrosion damage of unalloyed steel pipe. The investigated pipe was the operating part of the pipeline in the heating plant. Corrosion of the inner wall of a natural gas pipeline may occur when the wall is exposed to water and contaminants in the gas, such as O2, H2S, CO2 or chlorides. Corrosion damage of pipe, which was made of steel 12021.1 was subsequently investigated by means of stereo microscopy and optical microscopy. In the experimental part, the pipe was sectioned, grinded, polished and etched. The structure of the pipe is ferrite-pearlite. In relation to the pipe, the occurrence of corrosion which was identified is commonly called as pitting. It is a dangerous kind of corrosion. The corrosion effect involves penetration of the pipe wall and then it is necessary to weld affected pipes. In addition, corrosion was observed for the outside of the pipe.
