The construction of new power plants and modernization of existing plants, which are mostly at the end of their service life, increasingly require the use of new construction materials. In this sector modified martensitic 9-12% Cr steels such as type P/T92 and low-alloy steels derived from modified steel 2.5Cr1Mo (ASTM marked P/T23) are considered as promising. In the construction of power units so-called heterogeneous joints, which most often consist of a combination of low-alloyed materials and highly-alloyed ones, will then be avoided. These weld joints are often the weak link in the construction. Knowledge of the behavior of creep-resistant welded joints is very important for the subsequent evaluation of the life of the units.
