CUTTING TOOL DEVELOPMENT FOR EFFECTIVE MILLING OF TI6AL4V
Original language description
Cutting tools are exposed to very hard conditions in the milling of titanium alloys. Poor thermal conductivity of the work material as well as a high mechanical load on the cutting edge lead to short tool life, low tool performance, and poor cost-effectiveness of the process. Since insufficient cooling of the process is used in many cases, only low cutting speeds are applicable. Research on the development of a new cutting tool was conducted. The tool was tested under various cutting conditions and using different cooling methods. The properties of the new tool were observed and compared from various points of view, including tool life, tool performance and cost-effectiveness. The research has shown that in spite of the higher price of the improved cutting tool, the tool allows higher removal rates of material at similar or lower manufacturing costs as the standard tool.
