    Laser Weldability of Ductile Iron and Low Alloy Cr-Mo Steel

    Presented dissertation thesis focuses on laser weldability of two widely used materials, ductile iron with pearlitic matrix and Cr-Mo low alloy steel, and their heterogeneous welds. The welding parameters as laser power, welding speed, energy density etc. are selected so that a condition of deep penetration is fulfilled. Keyhole creation, melt pool movements, laser induced plume are observed to obtain basic data of complex phenomena taking place during deep penetration welding process. Obtained data include metallurgic observation of weld shape, depth, width depending on laser power, welding speed, and focal point position etc. Methods of weld process evaluation include systematic observation of the melt pool and laser induced plume by high speed videocameras, melt pool movements observation by X-ray transmission system, fractography analysis, electron microscopy, and spectroscopy analysis.
