Tribological Properties of Plasma Sprayed Amorphous Cermet Coatings
Original language description
Plasma spraying followed by heat treatment of coatings is one of the efficient ways how to protect the surface of industrial components against wear. One of rare material for plasma spraying is basalt forming the fully amorphous, wear resistant layer. Plasma spraying of basalt was performed by water stabilized plasma torch WSPRH. Its power allows to melt nearly any material. To increase toughness and adhesion to substrate the sprayed basalt was blended with 15, resp. 25%wt. of steel type 316L. The coating was heat-treated by industrial plasma hardfacing machine PPC250. Structure of the coating was studied metallographically, by XRD and by tribological testing. It was proved that fully functional coating of basalt/steel blend can be deposited by plasmaspraying technology. Tribologial testing confirmed increased wear resistance of plasma treated coatings.
