Melt quality is influenced by many factors, from input material to final adjustment using appropriate elements. The influence of the length of time during which the melt is kept in the furnace should not be underestimated. Empirically determined length of time to maintain the material in a holding furnace without a significant impact on its properties is for 12 hours. The aim of this paper is to assess whether this length of time is optimal or not. The experiment was conducted at foundry alloy AlSi10Mg, because of its versatility and frequent use for automotive components. For the practical part of this paper, five technological tests have been used, examining a change in the melt during the twelve-hour period.
