The paper describes the ongoing research on the pre-chamber ignition system for automotive natural gas fuelled combustion engine. So far performed experimental tests of prototypes and calculations have recently been expanded to include 3-D flow calculations with the Ansys Fluent software. The main goal of this work is a description of the fluid dynamics inside the pre-chamber (as yet without combustion), mixture distribution and assessment of the scavenging quality. The results are compared with the simulations in the GT-Power software. The new knowledge will be used to optimize the design of the pre-chamber (such as the shape, orifice location, spark plug position etc.)
