Investigation of mechanical properties of viscoelastic clusters of particles

  • Original language description

Viscoelastic clusters of particles is a very specific material. The production of this material is based on pure empirics, and even today the mechanical properties of viscose that could be used to design the device have not been determined yet. For the viscose homogenization, rotor-stator devices are used, which is based on the principle of crushing the material into smaller particles by a combination of pure shear and break-up by contact with edges of stator’s segments. Today, using special software, it is possible to determine the values of stresses on the walls of segments and to compare them with the stresses needed to deform the material. For this reason, the shear stress needed to viscose deformation was measured and used for comparison with results of simulation of mixing in self-made rotor-stator mixer.
