Causes of Disasters with Presence of Radioactive Substances
Original language description
At present the radioactive substances are used in many sectors. The use of radioactive substances and nuclear technologies improves human's quality of life. The article concentrates on revealing the root causes of acci-dents and failures connected with their application. For research, the original database of accidents and fail-ures of the application of radioactive substances and nuclear technologies was compiled on the world data. Critical analysis of database has shown that originators of disasters with presence of radioactive substances are: the civilian sector (nuclear power plants; industry; hospitals; shipment; warehouses; research centres and laboratories) and the military sector (military reactor crashes; attacks; transport; tests). The detail study is concentrated to civilian sector.
