Morphological characterization of calcium doped titanium layers
Original language description
Promising material solution, with a number of properties desirable for bone implants, is calcium doped titanium coating, which combines biogenic nature of calcium and good mechanical stability of biocompatible titanium matrix. In this work we present the results of material research focused on the effect of dopant concentration on the morphology of calcium doped titanium (TiCa) layer. TiCa layers were deposited on the Ti6Al4V substrates by dual electron beam evaporation technique. An analysis of the chemical composition and chemical bonds showed that the layers are composed of a calcium and titanium in their higher oxidation states i.e. partial formation of titanium and calcium oxides. Surface roughness and grain size increase with the concentration of Ca. Contact angle characterizing the wettability shows increasing trend, which follows the increase in surface roughness and concentration of calcium.
