Fatigue strength estimation of 42CrMo4+QT from the temperature evolution during cyclic loading
Original language description
This study focuses on the increase in temperature during cyclic loading of the conventionally manufactured specimens of 42CrMo4 + QT steel. It is assumed that it could provide an additional parameter to estimate fatigue life performance and fatigue limit. Four different specimen types are discussed, two of hourglass type and two of dog-bone type. The potential of an innovative and unbiased method for estimating the fatigue limit from temperature increase caused by the self-heating effect induced during cyclic loading is evaluated. Second, the use of the Fargione method to approximate fatigue life performance, and especially, to establish limiting energy is evaluated. It is concluded that it is not a suitable parameter for this specific material and set-up conditions.
