The use of laser shock peening in additive manufacturing
Original language description
Laser shock peening (LSP) offers a unique set of effects on the metallic materials, especially useful as a tool for combating detrimental effects typical for additive manufacturing. The LSP process is typically producing deep compressive residual stresses, which are usu-ally beneficial in many technical applications. The combination of LSP+AM has the potential to drastically change the part perfor-mance under load, fatigue life, roughness and many more either as a post-process or as a subprocess incorporated into additive manu-facturing.
