High-temperature tribological properties of high entropy alloy HfNbTaTiZr strengthened by nitride dispersion
Original language description
Refractory high-entropy alloys are a perspective kind of material for high-temperature applications due to their excellent mechanical properties as well as the ability to maintain these properties at high temperatures. Due to the large number of parameters influencing the final properties of HEA, available literature gives only limited information about the functional properties of individual alloys. In this study, refractory high entropy alloy HfNbTaTiZr powder was prepared by the process of Mechanical Alloying (MA). During the process of mechanical alloying, the powder was doped with nitrogen for varying times. Powders were further sintered by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS). Varying doping times resulted in different nitrogen contents in the final materials. Tribological properties at high temperatures were tested at room temperature and at a temperature of 800 °C. The influence of nitrogen content and sintering temperature on friction and wear rate, as well as the wear mechanism, are discussed.
