Flying in the atmosphere of selected bodies of our solar system

  • Original language description

Our solar system contains several bodies (i.e., some of the planets and the moons) with atmosphere suitable for flying. Motivation for the design of machines flying in the atmosphere of these bodies is basically scientific. They can be used for investigation of the atmosphere, topography tasks or for the sample return on the Earth. This paper is focused on the investigation of the analysis of the possibility of the flight for both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. Analytical approximation of the atmospheric properties including local gravity acceleration is used for every selected body. Aircraft performance is estimated for both rotary- and fixed-wing configurations and various missions (e.g., photographic missions or atmospheric research missions). Energy consumption is calculated for every mission (various propulsion systems are considered), and the results are discussed.
