WELDING OF STEEL WIRE ROPES
Original language description
The article focuses on optimizing the welding process of steel wire ropes used as load-bearing or structural elements in the construction of umbilicals — subsea cable bundles. The paper analyzes and evaluates welded samples using tensile tests and metallographic analysis, and proposes solutions to improve the mechanical properties of rope weld joints. These recommendations are implemented into new procedures, which are again subjected to the same analytical methods as the samples welded using previous procedures. As a result of welding process optimization, the mechanical properties of the weld joints were improved, particularly their tensile strength, which increased to a range of 660 to 730 MPa.
