Laser polishing technology is very perspective way of improving surface quality of mechanical components. As the 3D printing technology is more widely used in the industry, there is more often need to process their surface in some way. Nowadays it is possible to produce almost all standardly used materials by 3D printing technology (plastics, metals, composites). One material, which is very often used in the industry is corrosion resistance steel AISI 316 L. This material is also often processed by 3D printing technologies. This study deals with processing and characterization of laser polished surface of AISI 316 L corrosion resistance steel produced by Selective laser sintering (SLS) technology. For this study was used nanosecond laser. Laser radiation melts surface of the sample creating thin remelted layer. Optimal process parameters have been determined using 40 iterations of tests. Optimal parameters have been chosen in accordance with requirements for lowest surface roughness in combination with shortest process time. Low surface roughness ensures better fatigue resistance and fast process gives high productivity and small heat effected zone. Processed surface has been examined in terms of microstructure. In macro-view perspective Vickers hardness and area roughness have been measured.
