Dominant Modes on the Slotline and on the Conductor-backed Slotline
Original language description
The paper compares the characteristics of the dominant bound mode propagating along the slotline with the characteristics of the even dominant mode propagating along the conductor backed slotline. The theoretically predicted modes are experimentally verified. The dominant mode on the slotline is a standard bound mode. The metallization placed on the rear sufrace of the dielektric substrate, in order to create the conductor-backed slotline, completely changes the line behaviour. The conductor-backed slotline has a lower effective permittivity in the central part of the cross-section. Consequently, the dominant mode is not a bound wave. The fieeld of that mode in the transversal direction has a standing wave pattern and the transmitted energy is not bound to the central area of the line.
