Acoustic Digital - to - Analogue Conversion
Original language description
Transducers, both sensors and actuators, were the last elements in the electroacoustic chain which did not work in the digital mode, i.e. their inputs and outputs were only analogue. Signal processing, recoding, and transmission are to the large extent digitized, their analogue versions are used mostly for some special purposes. Transducers remained analogue until recent time. The analogue-to-digital conversion (A/D) performed by a microphone has been also described and some companies offer digital microphones where the A/D converson is performed imediatelly by the microphone capsule, usually using sigma-delta modulators.
