The Effect of Image Sensor Configurations on Image Quality
Original language description
The paper deals with parameters of image sensors, which are important for the image quality evaluation. The influence of the most important parameters upon image quality is investigated. Particularly the modulation transfer function, the influence of thepixel shape, the pixel sensitivity profile and sampling process upon image quality have been briefly reviewed. Especially both, the rectangular and the hexagonal pixel shape have been considered. MTF as the most important parameter depending on samplingdistance (pitch of area image sensor), sampling aperture and fill factor is described in detail. The main goal was to find the optimal pixel shape and the pixel distribution (also called sampling grid) within the image sensor area. The optimization means to use structures that are related to structure of the human retina and that one of the macaque monkey as well. At the end of this paper the influence of the pixel size from the point of image quality is evaluated via Matlab.
