The paper summaries two year of experiences that the authors gained when they solved the task of automatic mapping of web pages. They tested several versions of algorithms for solving this task, before they find out an usable solution. The question of web mapping represents a similar problem to identification of unknown black-box systems. Mutual connections of web pages by hyperlinks are sometimes describable by graphs, but their creations are not trivial problems. Direct attempts to map web pages by pure and simple automatic searching will often yield unusable graphs with extremely complex structures, eventually with infinite sizes, especially when mapping web pages that pages are dynamically created at the time of request. The algorithm presenting inthis paper performs automatic creation of web maps, where the structure of web pages is represented by an oriented graph. The graph can help people with their navigate in web pages or it is also usable for detecting errors in web pages.
