Original language description
In the 70ies the computer controllers were designed as microcode-controlled state machines. Although at present we have switched, when designing microcomputers to standard circuit control units, state machines are still important. They are suitable for certain control applications and tutoring. When writing a microprogram it is possible to try the controlling procedures of some of the operations and subsequently use the acquired knowledge in the optimization of microprogram. The correct function of microprogram and subsequent optimization is strongly dependent on the development and tuning devices. Thus there is a big emphasis on the design environment where the microprograms are written.
