Study of IEEE 802.11 MAC Behavior Over a Long Distance
Original language description
IEEE 802.11 is currently the most popular wireless network standard. To share medium, it uses two possible modes: Distributed coordination function (DCF) and Point coordination function (PCF). DCF mode is mandatory for all 802.11 devices and uses a carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) method for successful sharing of the medium between wireless nodes. PCF mode uses a polling mechanism which means that access point controls the medium access queue by giving polls to the nodes.DCF mode is designed for non real-time traffic such as WWW or E-mail while PCF mode is optional for real-time applications such as VoIP or video streams. In this paper, we're going to study DCF and PCF modes behavior in the IEEE 802.11 network over a long distance by performing an experiment.

Příspěvek se zabývá studim chování přenosových parametrů bezdrátových sítí dle IEEE 802.11 při přenosech na velmi dlouhou vzdálenost. Podrobně je zkoumáno chování při volbě různých funkcí (DCF a PCF) používaných pro přístup k médiu.
