ACE Strategy Using Virtual Electrodes
Original language description
The hearing impairment is one of the frequent diseases. The profound hearing loss patients with senzorineural disorder can use cochlear implant. The cochlear implant is electronic device that bypasses a non-functional inner ear by stimulating hearing nerve by patterns of electrical pulses, so that sounds and speech cam be medicated to profound hearing loss patients. Cochlear implant can substitute hearing only partially. Patients with cochlear implants have problems with speech understanding; some of them could not recognize speakers. Also effect of using cochlear implant in noisy environment is very limited. Our research is focused on better speech understanding and music perception enhancement using better frequency discrimination for Nucleus(R) 24 cochlear implants. That was achieved by introducing virtual channels in ACE speech processing algorithm.
