Implementation of FlexRay Node-Local Bus Guardian
Original language description
The FlexRay was designed as a new communication protocol for the safety-critical real-time applications in automotive. The node-local bus guardian (BG) is used for higher safety and also is responsible for enabling/disabling the media access and error detection. The BG concept is based on two independent communication controllers (CC) within one node. One CC (BG) takes the function of an intelligent BG and supervises the other CC (local CC). This paper describes hardware implementation of a node-local bus guardian into the field-programmable gate array (FPGA) Cyclone II and its verification by AlteraSim software. The last preliminary version of the BG specification has been applied for the project and an improved behavior of BG in the dynamic segment has been introduced and documented. This work is a part of research dealing with the reliability of x-by-wire systems in automotive.
