Original language description
The paper deals with principles of controlling active and reactive power in electrical systems. There are briefly explained the basic methods and equipments of passive and active compensation and control devices. The paper shows the differences between classical and modern devices using power electronics. Two case studies show the influences of shunt and series compensation on possibilities of controlling voltage, active and reactive power. Also different operational capabilities of several FACTS devices are compared.
