Low-Dispersion Spectroscopy: a Comparison of the GAIA and Objective-Prism Surveys
Original language description
The extremely low-dispersion spectroscopy to be implemented in the Gaia space observatory is compared with the ground-based objective-prism plate surveys. Although the dispersion in plate surveys usually is larger than in the Gaia BP/RP spectrometers, the spectral resolutions differ by a factor of 2--3 only, since the resolution of ground-based spectra is seeing-limited. This allows to consider that some of the algorithms developed for digitized objective-prism plates can be also applied for the Gaia spectra.
