In recent years, the field of agent-based manufacturing control systems becomes strongly influenced by the advancements of semantic technologies. The ontology usually captures both static aspects of the modeled domain (classes of facts and their relationships) and the dynamic aspects (the knowledge base containing particular instances capturing the current state of the modeled world). Ontologies are very helpful for the information processing and reasoning, but they are still not widely used in MAS industrial control applications. This paper shows how procedural and declarative knowledge can be utilized and processed in agent-based manufacturing control system to enable better flexibility and adaptability to changes in customer environment.
