Precision Clock Synchronization Protocol and Its Implementation into Laboratory Ethernet Network
Original language description
This article deals with the synchronization in packet-based data networks, especially in the Ethernet. Generally, there are several protocols and standards, which could be used for this purpose, but one the most promising is IEEE 1588 Precision Clock Synchronization Protocol (PTP), which will be described in this paper. The main section of this article is focused on the practical implementation of IEEE 1588 protocol into the fully operational Ethernet network. The network consists of several network devices, some of them support IEEE 1588 PTP protocol and others, like standard Ethernet switch and hub, do not support this synchronization protocol. We also performed several measurements and comparisons of the accuracy of precision time distribution for different network topologies and under various network conditions. These results, in the form of graphs, are also commented here and several conclusions about the influence of network devices are given in this article.
