Distributed Industrial Control Systems: The Usability of Procedural and Declarative Knowledge in MAS
Original language description
Recently, the manufacturing domain is primarily characterized by the flexibility, adaptability and robustness of the production systems. The manufacturing flow processes lead to shorter cycle times to efficiently meet customer needs, therefore the new generation of automation control systems has to face the increasing complexity, requirements for dynamic re-configurability, resistance to failures or unpredictable disturbances, etc. Over the past several years strong attention has been focused on solutions based on service oriented architectures and multi-agent systems that provide sufficient techniques and methods for designing and developing distributed control systems. The problem of shared understanding and knowledge reuse is being investigated in both areas.
