    Detection of Reflected GPS Signals

  • Original language description

The use of satellite based Global Positioning System is commonplace for a wide range of applications as the accuracy capability increases. To determine the exact position on earth, the GPS receiver compares the time when the signal was sent by the satellite with the time the signal was received. From this time difference the distance between receiver and satellite is calculated. However the ground and other objects can easily reflect GPS signals - this effect mainly appears in the neighborhood of largebuildings, often resulting in one or more secondary paths, therefore longer propagation time and this can significantly distort the signals waveform's amplitude and phase, which in effect means the error in position. This paper will discuss the detectionof the multipath errors - the resulting error typically lies in the range of a few meters.
