Application of Wireless Sensor Networks in Condition Monitoring of Rotating Devices
Original language description
Wireless approach to acquire diagnostic signals (vibration, temperature, input current etc.) from mechanical devices and their components could be more than an interesting alternative to conventional wire systems with a central data logger or analyser. It is evident that wirelessly mounted sensors bring benefits in easier installation, manipulation and maintenance. However bare substitution of wires for a radio communication with enormous stream of raw data between sensors and a central unit has many drawbacks like power consumption, noise resistance and hardware requirement. Decentralised systems called wireless sensor network appears more suitable in this way. In WSN each sensor node is equipped by microcontroller to control sensor setting, radio andnetwork communication. These systems are not primarily designed to sense rapidly changing signals but presence of microcontroller in node offers a possibility to integrate a suitable signal processing methods mainly data fusion to extrac
