Effect of Demagnetization and Dimensions of Ring-core Fluxgate Sensor on Output Noise
Original language description
Output noise of fluxgate sensors is determined by many parameters, in this contribution we focus on the demagnetization factor of the magnetic material in the fluxgate core. This effect is studied on ring-core tape-wound fluxgates with different diameters of the core and number of tape layers. When optimizing the number of wraps for a 50-mm sensor, we were able to obtain magnetic noise less than 3pT/rtHz at 1 Hz for even for as-cast ribbon. However for 14-mm cores, field annealing was necessary to allowfor less than 10pT/rtHz showing that stress effects are significant in this case despite similar demagnetizing factor to 50-mm sensor.
