Co-firing biomass with coal
Original language description
As a result of the struggle against climate change, oil and gas crisis or the concept of sustainable development is EU policy aimed to increase the share of renewables in the energy mix to clean and efficient use of traditional resources and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This forces us to think about alternative ways of energy production. Co-firing of fossil fuel with biomass could be partly the solution to meet 2020 goals. Like all the other alternative ways of energy production, also co-firing is not directly competitive. Its subsidy, same as other subsidies causes loss of competitiveness globally. Additional costs are ultimately paid by final customers. These costs should be therefore minimized.
