Linear Scanner with Magnetic Field Mapping
Original language description
Presented device is a detector of metallic and ferromagnetic objects with the ability to create images of magnetic fields. The detection head utilizes an array of 16 gradiometers composed of anisotropic magnetoresistors (AMRs) which are sensitive to bothsteady-state (DC) and alternating (AC) magnetic fields. Thus the sensors are sensitive to ferromagnetic objects. With the addition of an external excitation field also non-ferromagnetic metals are detected due to the magnetic response of eddy currents. The array of sensors is arranged in a linear scanner so the scanning speed is good, the scanning area is 0.6 m wide and the resolution in the direction of scanner motion is high. Digitized signals of gradiometers are transferred to a portable computer tocreate maps of DC and AC magnetic fields which correspond to the shape, depth and material of the detected objects.
