    Utilization of Waveguide Applicators Combination for Electromagntic Field Focusing

    The main goal of this article is to report on electromagnetic energy targeting (represented SAR) to muscle tissue affected by tumor. By the combination of four and six applicators we want to hit the most part of the tumor. We developed water filled waveguide applicator with stripline horn aperture suitable to get maximum SAR to the malignant tissue. To find suitable applicator position we used the EM field simulator SEMCAD Aletsch 14.8 from SPEAG, Schmidt & Partner Engineering AG, Switzerland. We used the mathematical software MATLAB to view simulation results. In the first part of this article we show the distribution of EM energy to the homogenous phantom with the dielectric parameters of human muscle in which we placed inhomogeneity as malignant tissue. We describe distribution of SAR values in phantoms with different widths. Further, we made SAR field optimization based on Generalized eigenvalue approach with the EM field simulator SEMCAD X.
