The paper summarises present development in the field of photovoltaics and discusses the potential of photovoltaics to contribute significantly to future energy supply. Education and training are very important for preparing present and future in the field. General types of courses and their main feature are mentioned to promote discussion of specialists about an optimisation course curricula and exchange of experiences with present forms of education in the field of photovoltaics, in order to establishan infrastructure and to meet the requirements of the market.
