*Learning data discretization via convex programming
Original language description
*We propose a generic framework that allows to adapt a convex learning algorithm for learning piece-wise constant and piece-wise linear decision functions. The algorithm adapted by our framework learns the discretization of input variables along with theparameters of the decision function by optimizing a single clearly interpretable objective function. The complexity of the discretization is controlled by an user-defined parameter proportional to the number of bins. The learning problem is transformedinto a convex program which can be solved efficiently by existing solvers.
