    Handling of False Stationary Detections in Background Subtraction in Video Preprocessing

    This paper describes a method for identifying and avoiding false stationary detections in background subtraction caused by movement of objects belonging to the background. This method is independent on used background subtraction algorithm. The proposed algorithm examines edges on contours of detected foreground objects to decide if it is a true detection or a false alarm. We propose and test 4 specific criteria functions that can be used to evaluate detected objects, we use the function with best results to test the effect of this method on performance of a tracking system. Both indoor and outdoor video sequences are used for evaluation.
