Indoor Positioning Using a Single Transmitter for Visible Light Communication Systems

  • Original language description

The paper introduces a concept for the visible light communications (VLC) based positioning systém, which uses minimum number of transmitters. The method is based on the estimation of the user´s velocity between the previous and current user positions. On the move, the user´s position is estimated based on the velocity of the user when it is moving, the received signal strength indicator from a single active transmitter and the initial user position obtained once at the beginning. In practice, the general indoor illumination utilises multiple LED arrays, which is suitable for the proposed systém as it forms a multiple input and multiple outputs (MIMO) VLC systém offering the capability for determining the initial position. In addition, the proposed MIMO VLC offers the self-correction scheme to complete the channel state information matrix with missing elements during the pilot signal period. Simulation results show that the method is effective in obtaining the position of the user on the move.
