Input Data Quality: A Case Study in BSPM

  • Original language description

Regarding recent trend in medicine, denoted as P4-medicine (Personalized, Predictive, Preventive and Participative), healthcare systems must cope with growing amount of large and complex sets of high-dimensional heterogeneous data. Additionally they have to cope with growing amount of unstructured and frequently continuous information. The question of most suitable definition of the data quality concept emerges. It is not easy to define it even at well structured data since it is multidimensional. Big data add two more dimensions of complexity: specificity given by the data source and high degree of unstructuredness, frequently without any possibility of reference to a gold standard. We will illustrate on a case study of body surface potential mapping (BSPM) how important data context and data source understanding, selection of proper preprocessing methods and results in relation to data source are. If data processing consists of more steps, the initial step is crucial.
