Performances of Optical Camera-based Vehicular Communications under Turbulence Conditions

  • Original language description

In this paper, we investigate the performance of a vehicular visible light communications (VVLC) link, which uses an incoherent light source as the transmitter (Tx) and an optical camera as receiver, under a turbulent condition. The result shows that in comparison to photodiode based optical wireless communications links using coherent light sources as Txs, the effect of the amplitude fluctuations introduced by turbulence (i.e., up to the refractive index structure parameter of 1.1 x 10^(-10) m^(-2/3)) on the VVLC link is minimal. Consequently, under turbulence the VVLC link performance when using incoherent light sources is not considerably degraded.
