An Eddy Current Speed Sensor for Rectangular Bars
Original language description
This paper presents an eddy current speed sensor for linear speed measurements of moving rectangular bars. The sensor consists of three anti-serially connected excitation coils and two anti-serially pickup coils. The materials of the rectangular conductive bar are ferromagnetic iron and aluminum. 2D and 3D time stepping finite element methods are used for the simulation and analysis of the speed sensor. The analysis results are compared with the measurements at variable speeds and various frequencies. Also, speed sensor performance with one solid iron hexagonal bar is analyzed and measured to demonstrate the suitability of the sensor for linear speed measurements of noncircular bars.
