Binaural hearing provides two main benefits – ability to localize sounds in horizontal plane and an improved performance in sound in noise detection. While the former phenomenon can be explained by a number of existing computational models, the latter still lacks a widely accepted understanding of underlying principles. The paper aims at a brief introduction to the topic and a description of the prospective work.
