Harmonic Transponder Concept with Chipless RF Identification Capability
Original language description
In this work, we propose and demonstrate a novel concept of a harmonic transponder with built-in chipless RF identification capability (HTID), which is based on a triple-band patch antenna loaded with a Schottky diode. The device is designed to operate at a fundamental frequency (f0) and two adjustable frequencies (f2 & f3), which are located just below and above the second harmonic (2f0), with the magnitude of the frequency spacing (Δf = f3-f2) representing a unique identifier. The upper two frequencies are modulated by a pair of passive strips, which are gap-coupled to the original dual-band antenna. The HTID operational principles are demonstrated by a set of parametric EM simulations and verified by the measurement of two proof-of-concept samples.
