    PV modules can be made of different materials with different manufacturing technologies. The criteria of high efficiency, low cost and long service life of photovoltaic modules, together with the availability of raw materials, are currently best met by wafer-based crystalline silicon technologies, which represent more than 96% of the current production of photovoltaic modules. The impact of innovative drivers (cost, efficiency and lifetime) on current technology and trends in crystalline silicon photovoltaic modules is discussed.
