Radiation Pattern Synthesis Using Partially Reactively Loaded Antenna Array
Original language description
This work proposes a method for the synthesis of the shape of the whole radiation pattern at a single frequency using a partially reactively loaded antenna array. The method can be used for an arbitrary array with a fixed arrangement and considers the coupling between ports of the array. The impedance matrix and the set of radiation patterns describing the array are calculated just once by a full-wave simulation. The objective is to determine the fixed excitations of the excited ports and the fixed loads of the reactively loaded ports that result in an approximation of a given radiation pattern by an array radiation pattern while minimizing a certain error between the patterns. It adapts and extends the approach using the projection of the given radiation pattern onto the set of radiation patterns describing the array with the help of the inner product of the radiation patterns for the partially reactively loaded array. This approach is involved in the iterative method in combination with the optimization by the genetic algorithm. The excitations are found through the projection, whereas the loads are found through the optimization. The method is verified in several examples of circular arrays of quarter-wavelength monopoles and matrix arrays of rectangular patches that exhibit symmetry.
