Magnetic Properties of the Industrial Dust
Original language description
Samples of the industrial dust were collected from breathing zone of steel workers using single-step and dual-step filtration to isolate the respirable fraction. After DC magnetization the remanent magnetic moment was measured using rotating-sample magnetometer, and specific remanent moment was calculated. The measured results have shown that the grinding dust and welding fumes deposited in human lungs may be detected by measuring their remanent field. Even in case of stainless steel (often containing carcinogens) part of the dust becomes magnetic.
